What is this exactly?
About us: Every month, the Morbidly Curious Book Club reads a nonfiction book that feeds your curious mind. Cults, true crime, serial killers, weird science, dark history, plagues, and more. It’s okay to be curious! Join us!
The book box is part of the new Morbidly Curious Book Club online bookstore! The subscription specifically lets you receive that month’s pick while supporting small businesses.
The book club selections come with a signed bookplate from the author, a postcard, bookmark, and stickers!
Is it really just nonfiction only? It is, it is. The Morbidly Curious Book Club is here to expand your knowledge within the nonfiction space. We, of course, can order something if you have a request, fiction or nonfiction. Just send us an email.
Where can I join the book club conversation? A few places! We have chapters that meet around the world, which you can find the link by clicking here. We have a live show discussion on the last Sunday of every month at 7pm EST, over on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. We also have a Discord, which you can find the link by joining us on the BookClubs website.
Ordering & Shipping
When will my order ship? All orders ship the day after purchase, and your box should arrive within about a week. (Unless there's a delay in product, or a holiday.) USPS hours are M-F 8 to 5, and Sat 8 to 1.
Do I have to subscribe, or can I just buy a single book? You don't have to subscribe! You can buy the book on its own. There's a slight incentive to subscribing to the monthly selection. Books will remain available in the store as long as we have inventory.
Do you ship internationally? Yes, we now offer international shipping! If you do not see your country, please send us an email.
Local Pickup
Is local pickup available? Yes! Local pickup is now an option. I'll coordinate directly with you on a specific date and time. If you attend any of the book club meetings I host (Statesville, Troutman, Belmont, or Charlotte, NC), I can bring your book right to you there.
Subscriptions
When can I start my subscription? Anytime! There are no more monthly deadlines (previously the 15th of each month). Whatever day you subscribe is the day you'll be billed and renewed going forward.
Will subscribing later in the month affect my book? It might. If you subscribe later in the month, shipping can take about a week depending on your location, which could delay your reading slightly. Here's the release schedule for upcoming picks:
- October's book — Spiritualism's Place — available for purchase September 1st
- November's book — London Falling — available for purchase October 1st
- (New picks continue to release on the 1st of the month, going forward)
How do I cancel my subscription? You can cancel anytime through your account on Shopify (created automatically when you subscribe) No need to contact me unless you'd like help, or have questions!
Book Selections & Format
Will books always be hardcover? The book club pick will primarily be hardcover, unless a title didn't release in hardcover or is no longer available in hardcover.
What happens during a paperback month? If a pick is only available in paperback, you'll receive that title in paperback along with a second paperback (either topic-adjacent or a previous MCBC pick) to round out the box to its full value.
Are books from the podcast available for purchase? Yes! Excitingly, the store will feature books discussed on the podcast that you can purchase separately (applicable to episodes towards the end of 2026).
Pricing
Has the box price changed? Yes, it's now slightly cheaper than it used to be!
Patreon & Discounts
Is there a discount for Patreon members? Yes! MCBC Patreon members have access to a discount code to save on their order. Members are notified when the code is available.
Will Patreon book club picks be sold in a bundle? Eventually, yes — a bundle option including Patreon book club picks is coming in January 2027.
