What is this exactly?

About us: Every month, the Morbidly Curious Book Club reads a nonfiction book that feeds your curious mind. Cults, true crime, serial killers, weird science, dark history, plagues, and more. It’s okay to be curious! Join us!

The book box is part of the new Morbidly Curious Book Club online bookstore! The subscription specifically lets you receive that month’s pick while supporting small businesses.

The book club selections come with a signed bookplate from the author, a postcard, bookmark, and stickers. More on subscriptions below!

Is it really just nonfiction only? It is, it is. The Morbidly Curious Book Club is here to expand your knowledge within the nonfiction space. We, of course, can order something if you have a request, fiction or nonfiction. Just send us an email / fill out the contact form.

Where can I join the book club conversation? A few places! We have chapters that meet around the world, which you can find the link by clicking here. We have a live show discussion on the last Sunday of every month at 7pm EST, over on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. We also have a Discord, which you can find the link by joining us on the BookClubs website.

Subscriptions

When can I start my subscription? Anytime! Whatever day you subscribe is the day you'll be billed and renewed going forward.

Will subscribing later in the month affect my reading experience/book arrival? It might. If you subscribe later in the month, shipping can take about a week depending on your location, which could delay your reading slightly. Here's the release schedule for upcoming picks:

October's book — Spiritualism's Place — available for purchase September 1st
November's book — London Falling — available for purchase October 1st
December's book — Society of the Snow — available for purchase November 1st
- (New picks continue to release on the 1st of the month, going forward)

How do I cancel, skip, or adjust my subscription? Located at the top of the main page in the header, you'll see 'Customer Portal.' From there, you can see your profile, orders, or subscription portal; or click here for the subscription portal specifically. Type in your email. In that email you receive, you should get information on your subscription, and have the ability to pause, skip, cancel, whatever you need to do. If you have questions or get lost here, you can contact us for assistance (at the bottom of this FAQ page).

Do I have to subscribe, or can I just buy a single book? You don't have to subscribe! You can buy the book club selection on its own. There's a slight incentive to subscribing to the monthly selection. Books will remain available in the store as long as we have inventory.

Ordering & Shipping:

When will my order ship? It depends! What you order, where you live, ec. tSome books aren’t currently in stock at MCBC, but we can order them for you. Check the Features / In-Stock page to see what’s available now. If a book isn’t in stock, expect it to ship within 5–10 business days after you place your order. (There have been quite a few delays currently from the warehouse, across the board.)

Do you ship internationally? Yes, we now offer international shipping! If you do not see your country, please send us an email.

Local Pickup:

Is local pickup available? Yes! Local pickup is now an option. I'll coordinate directly with you on a specific date and time. If you attend any of the book club meetings I host (Statesville, Troutman, Belmont, or Charlotte, NC), I can bring your book right to you there.

Book Selections & Format for Book Box:

Will books always be hardcover? The book club pick will primarily be hardcover, unless a title didn't release in hardcover or is no longer available in hardcover.

What happens during a paperback month? If a pick is only available in paperback, you'll receive that title in paperback along with a second paperback (either topic-adjacent or a previous MCBC pick) to round out the box to its full value.

Are books from the podcast available for purchase? Yes! Excitingly, the store will feature books discussed on the podcast that you can purchase separately (applicable to episodes towards the end of 2026).

Pricing:

Has the box price changed? Yes, it's now slightly cheaper than it used to be!

Patreon & Discounts:

Is there a discount for Patreon members? Yes! MCBC Patreon members have access to a discount code to save on their order. Members are notified when the code is available.

Will Patreon book club picks be sold in a bundle? Eventually, yes — a bundle option including Patreon book club picks is coming in January 2027.
